Theil Index: Racial Diversity

Layer displays information about racial segregation using the Theil index. This index measures the “evenness” of all races across the county based on the racial composition of the population at the block group level.

IRS Tax Statistics

Layers display ZIP code and county-level information about tax returns filed in 2011, including the number and percentage of returns claiming Earned Income Tax Credits. Data is acquired through the Brookings Institute’s Earned Income Tax Credit Interactive.

Life Expectancy

Layers display county-level information about the average life expectancy of males and females in the United States.

New Residential Constructions Permits

Layers display information about the number of permits issued for residential building construction in 2012. Additional data analysis by CARES includes the rate of permit issuance per 10,000 households (by county), and rate change over several time periods.

Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE)

Layers update the Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE) from the U.S. Census Bureau for the year 2011. In addition to udpating the county information, new data was added at the state level including racial breakdowns for populations without insurance.
